Bridge Slack and WhatsApp with an AI agent that summarizes threads, routes alerts, and runs on-call

Communication

What is Slack?

Slack is the team messaging platform used by more than 200,000 organizations and 35 million daily active users. The LunoGen Slack integration connects your AI agent to the Slack Web API and Events API so it can read channels, post messages, open threads, create channels, invite users, and respond to slash commands — all bridged to and from WhatsApp.

Why connect Slack?

Slack is where internal work happens, but WhatsApp is where founders, field teams, and customers live. Keeping the two in sync usually means copy-pasting screenshots or context-switching all day. An AI agent sitting between them turns Slack into a bidirectional bridge: summarize a noisy #general thread to your phone, forward a WhatsApp customer message into #support, or have an on-call alert in Slack automatically wake up the person on duty via WhatsApp DM. No more living in two apps.

What you can do

  • Cross-post WhatsApp conversations to specific Slack channels
  • Summarize long Slack threads on demand with participant breakdown
  • Auto-create a new Slack channel per customer, project, or incident
  • Daily activity digest: most active channels, mentions, unanswered threads
  • Two-way translation bridge between WhatsApp groups and Slack channels
  • Route Slack alerts (PagerDuty, Sentry, GitHub) to WhatsApp for on-call
  • Turn WhatsApp voice notes into Slack messages with transcripts
  • Reply to Slack mentions from WhatsApp without opening the app
  • Respond to Slack slash commands like /lunogen ask
  • Compliance archiving: export channel history to PDF on request

Setup

Requirements

  • A Slack workspace (Free or paid plan)
  • Workspace admin access to install a Slack app
  • A LunoGen account with at least the Pro plan
  1. 1

Create a Slack app at api.slack.com

Go to api.slack.com/apps → Create New App → From scratch. Name it 'LunoGen Agent' and pick your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add bot token scopes

    Under OAuth & Permissions, add these scopes: channels:history, channels:read, channels:manage, chat:write, groups:history, im:history, users:read, commands, and files:read.

  3. 3

Install the app to your workspace

Click Install to Workspace and approve the permissions. Copy the Bot User OAuth Token (starts with xoxb-).

  4. 4

    Connect the credential in LunoGen

In LunoGen, go to Credentials → New → Slack and paste the xoxb- token. Pick a default channel for the agent to post to.

  5. 5

Enable Events API for two-way sync

Under Event Subscriptions, paste your LunoGen events URL and subscribe to message.channels, app_mention, and reaction_added.
